sometimes working when you’re sick with a cold results in more decisive painting. the 3 eyes are back and now it’s time to get this thing finished. at this point I am ready to put this painting away and move on, but like with any book I start, I cannot start anew without finishing the old first - for better or for worse

took a break from working on the painting and started this drawing instead. not sure how I’m feeling about it yet, but it can change pretty fast. it was a nice change-o-pace nonetheless!

ze wheels are a-turning

Originally I was planning to post a picture of the newest phase of the painting I’ve been working on, but the photo I snapped is simply too blurry. Instead, I thought that I might share an article I read this morning that has been some good food for thought.  Written by the youthful radio host, Jesse Thorn, he shares how to Make Your Thing:12 Point Program for Absolutely, Positively 1000% No-Fail Guaranteed Success

While this post is more specifically aimed at those looking to create written, spoken, or performed content within mainstream media means (i.e. podcasts, shows, blogs, etc.), it applies nicely to anyone wanting to live and work creatively. The guy has some good advice and entertaining yet relevant examples to boot. This isn’t anything groundbreaking or beyond common sense, but Thorn’s straightforward and casual approach bolstered by his own story has reassured me that I am not alone or crazy for wanting to make stuff for a living. Many toil away in a myriad of ways trying to do what they love. This reminder coupled with some guidance and examples of success can make anyone in the midst of an existential crisis take a cleansing breathe and maybe even relax.

I personally know that this type of thing helps me re-focus and think about the things I need to be more disciplined about and the bullshit that needs to fall away. Thorn’s article has been a solid addition to the pile of “self-help for the creative” literature that has been my soup du jour lately.

…and some eyeballs just popped outta no where! Well, not entirely nowhere - been looking at wrathful deities lately & the 3 eyes symbolize past, present, & future. Plus who doesn’t like strange creatures? This painting ain’t near done (especially that right side… it’s just not quite um, yes, not quite right), but getting closer. I guess that’s something!

…and now the painting is looking like this. Scratch the whole feeling like it was near completion thing about two weeks ago because this painting has changed about two more times since then. I’m still trying to figure it out, and the best way for me is by just working through it - or so this is what I’m telling myself. Whether I’ma liar or not is still to be determined. I still feel like the piece is not anywhere near finished yet, but I’m hoping to make some serious headway on it over the long weekend. With that said, a photo from the future will be posted Monday night and then the comparisons can begin!
